Good Skin Care Treatment Starts With Cleanliness - But Cleanliness Is Also An Internal Process

01/08/2008

If you’re having skin problems, one of the major factors could be toxicity. Unfortunately, because the skin is a primary site for elimination of toxins, it’s also usually the site of the first visible signs of toxicity. Our skin becomes mottled, dry, breaks out in rashes or scaly patches, and we get the occasional or frequent glaring blemish. A good shielding lotion is a vital basic in topical skin care treatment as it protects us from household and environmental chemicals, but knowing how to keep the internal toxicity to a minimum also helps. Here’s how you do it.

As we continue to use household, personal care and skin care treatment products laden with chemicals – and breathe air and eat food also overburdened with chemicals - our toxicity level increases. Sometimes our body just can’t keep up with all the junk it has to get rid of and it comes spilling out through our skin. This leads to either a slow deterioration of our healthy glow, or sends us rushing to the skin care treatment products in our bathrooms or local stores to control the unsightly eruption we woke up with.

How can you help control this process?

  • Although it may sound difficult, try going for a day every few weeks without eating. You have to be careful with this – to be safe you should drink a natural, organic, healthy shake loaded with nutrients but, otherwise, drink only clean, bottled water for the day and lay off solid foods. This will give your organs a rest and will help clean out your system.
  • Eliminate or drastically cut down on peanuts, peanut butter, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, popcorn, citrus fruits, grapes, plums, raisins and onions. They are difficult to digest and overtax the body so it has less energy to get rid of toxins. You should also include dairy in this list – it’s hard to break down dairy proteins, you’re better off with meat and fish. Get your calcium from supplements.
  • Start using natural skin care products instead of the usual chemical-laden products.
  • Use a shielding lotion. A good shielding lotion bonds with the outer layer of skin to form a new protective layer that keeps out chemicals. Without the protection of a shielding lotion, the chemicals damage the skin itself and are absorbed into the body where they cause further damage. A shielding lotion also helps retain natural moisture – a vital component of the toxin-elimination process.

If you’re curious to see how toxic you are, try this simple test: Add a half cup of baking soda to your bath water, soak for about 15 minutes and, very gently, scrub your skin with soap on a loofah. As aluminum, mercury and other heavy metals are scrubbed out of the skin the water will turn murky.

Cleanliness is a skin care treatment basic. However, we usually only think of this in terms of cleansing the skin – and consequently depend on skin care treatment to do the job. But cleanliness actually starts inside the body. In fact, no matter how many skin care treatment products we use to clean the outside, our efforts can be defeated if we’re not also clean on the inside.

Try the simple suggestions above, including the shielding lotion, and you could say goodbye to most of the skin care treatment products in your bathroom. As an added bonus, you’ll feel and look better, and you’ll be in better health.
