Outdoor winter activities such as skiing, hiking, or ice skating can be fun. But don�t forget the skin care: The sun can still harm your skin.

If you live or are vacationing in high altitudes, the sun�s damaging rays increase by four percent for every 1,000 feet of elevation. In snow, it�s even worse. More than half of the damaging rays is reflected back onto your skin. And, don�t let the cold fool you. The temperature of the air has no effect on the sun�s harmful ultraviolet rays.

In winter, sunscreens may be less effective too. Cold winds and dry air cause them to evaporate quickly. So use a sunscreen with a good moisturizing base that will resist the evaporating effect. Also, be sure the sunscreen protects you from the sun�s damaging UVA and UVB rays.
